“Those who fail to plan, plan to fail”, said George Finn (aka Finnster). It is a repetitive quote from him over the years…. what I would call his mantra. This is his variation of the quote from Winston Churchill who said, “He who fails to plan is planning to fail” and Benjamin Franklin who was credited with the quote, “By failing to prepare you are preparing to fail”. This is George’s take on these principled quotes and he lives this-totally owns it…and yes sometimes to a fault. He is a great planner…FINNominal, if you pardon the FINNism…. THE research king. BUT…even the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry (To A Mouse, Robert Burns) I would suggest this is where some of the best FINNissues come into play. Something is bound to go wrong no matter how much you plan…especially when as FINNissue #37 says-you choose the path of the MOST resistance. No matter how much you’ve planned…. there are always more details or obstacles that you just never saw coming…. such is life.
So there were just more than a year ago…. Discussing the future over coffee, because there is always coffee. ( George has been with the fire department for almost 2o years. His father has coffee running thru his veins after 45 plus years in the PFD) So as I was saying…deciding the more intricate details about putting our thoughts into plans… into actions.
Retirement is the future. How do we implement some of the strategies? What is the time frame? Am I certain? It’s not like I haven’t done this a few times before.
We want to travel/vacation, a component our world has been lacking. So, let’s start there. Given was our agreement on the chartered course since it will play into the big picture of retirement. So he went to THE GOOGLE…because THAT is where all the answers are! (Let me just mention that I wish I went to school now with the benefits of the internet…talk about no excuses) The research expanded and a dates were to be determined. Things were going to happen.
Life happens now.
